Church
History (continued)
|
The young church was established under the leadership of Pastor Amalia Rylander, but she soon recognized the need to return to the office of co-pastor of Shiloh Hartford alongside her husband, Pastor Herb. After seeking the Lord for the right pastor for the young Middletown congregation, the Rylanders were led to approach Evangelist Paul Hylton, who was serving as an associate minister of Christ Chapel New Testament Church under the leadership of Bishop William M. Philpot.
Paul and his wife Donna sought the Lord in prayer and the counsel of their pastor before accepting the position. After being convinced in their hearts that it was the will of God to accept the pastorate, Pastor Paul humbly assumed the office of Under Shepherd and began serving the Body at Shiloh on January 1, 1988.
Shiloh Christian Church began with three official members, hearts full of faith, and a vision to reach the world with the Word of God. Over the years God has built the church (His church) member by member, family by family, and ministry by ministry as the Body has sought Him in prayer. People from all walks of life, from diverse denominational backgrounds, from a myriad of races, cultures and countries, and from all strata of our society have made Shiloh Christian Church their home. Together we have become a family of God unified in the name of Christ. The Shiloh family literally extends across the U.S. and around the world; many former members have relocated to states far and near and countries across the globe. Even though we may be far apart geographically, we still retain a common bond and special memories of the times we shared in the Lord. We have truly been blessed to see hundreds of lives touched by the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The Bible tells us that we would be witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the uttermost parts of the earth. Since its inception, Shiloh has sought to live out that Scripture by being a witness in our city of Middletown, in the state of Connecticut, and in countries around the world such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Holland, Ghana, Nigeria, Philippines, Peru, Kenya, Italy, Jamaica, China, and others. Even though we have been laboring in the vineyard for 20 years, it feels like we have only begun to fulfill the vision that God has laid to our charge. Many have heard, but countless others need to know about Jesus and we are committed to doing the work of the Master until He returns.
Our story is HIS-story… and it is still being written today…
